One thing is sure about Edward Snowden. Opinions vary on what he did in leaking vast amounts of government secrets about various surveillance operations by the National Security Agency, the super secretive agency charged with collecting vast amounts of data in the name of identifying risks to the nation's security, particularly post-911.
Today's NYT says Mr. Snowden did a service, albeit without permission and should be cut a break. Others say he should be shot as a traitor.
It's certainly a complicated issue and surely many would feel while he shouldn't have betrayed the trust, it certainly was an eye opener to learn the extent of government snooping and frankly how easy it apparently is to pull this off. One guy, who was a contract employee with little time there.
One thing is for sure, people know what the NSA is, because they likely didn't before.
