The issue of how many rules can you expect the public to absorb when they want to get away from it all is at the heart of a pending discussion on new signs for city parks and playgrounds.
I like the idea of signage, especially at playgrounds, to let visitors know they are on public land and certain rules apply. The same could be said of smaller parks and facilities like the pavilion within Thompson Park.
A series of signs put up over the years are confusing and ineffective.
One in particular are signs in the Park telling the public to park in "green areas". There are no such areas and the signs refer to a decades old map where parking areas were designated in green.
Other signs cluttering roadways are not read or understood. The proposed signs are a good start, but more work is needed.
