Pope Francis continues to preach a more grass roots approach to spreading the gospel and in a message to the Church he oversees, called for less focus on polishing the chalices in Rome and more outreach to the poor and marginalized in society.
"I prefer a Church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets, rather than a Church which is unhealthy from being confined and from clinging to its own security," the Pope said in a major new statement.
The Pontiff also derided the money culture which he called idolatry and again called for fewer culture wars and suggested a change to the policy of denying Communion to some. Said Pope Francis, the Eucharist is not a "prize for the perfect" but instead a way to bring Christ into the lives of those who need it most.
