In a sign of a possible candidacy, Jefferson County Undersheriff Paul Trudeau has begun hosting meetings of regional law enforcement agencies to share problems and concerns and get to know each other.
The high profile taken by Mr. Trudeau in this effort and in dealings with the county legislature buttresses the belief of some in law enforcement that the undersheriff plans to seek the top spot next year if Sheriff John Burns does not run. Many say they believe he will not.
Mr. Trudeau also changed political party registration recently, and those type of things are never a coincidence.
Running as the insider candidate will have its challenges but this race, like any other, hinges on the appeal of possible challengers. At this point a couple of GOP challengers have been mentioned.
