Nine N.Y. Legislature seats may be vacant for year | The Journal News

There are nine vacant seats, two in the Senate and seven in the Assembly as the NYS Legislature convenes.
Many lawmakers got elected to higher paying or more cushy local offices, including four NYC Assembly members getting elected to City Council which pays six figures and doesn't require travelling to remote and rural Albany (although you lose the Bear Mountain Compact).
So far the Governor has not called special elections leaving a million New Yorkers unrepresented. It's not as bad as it sounds, as in many of these districts Members of Assembly are unknown anyway.
