Looks like there will be two contested races for countywide office next year in Jefferson County.
Undersheriff Paul Trudeau is running to succeed his boss against GOP challenger John Bocciolott..
As mentioned earlier up to four people are interested in the Family Court spot being vacated by Judge Richard Hunt.
The sheriff race on the surface would seem to be one of Mr. Trudeau running on the record of the current department, and it will be easy for opposition to focus in on the blemishes. Democrat Trudeau does have the jail overcrowding issue and the long feud with the County Legislature as an issue to exploit.
Without knowing either candidate very well, and considering the backdrop to the race, it's no stretch to consider the Republican candidate the early favorite, but other candidates and a campaign lay ahead, so let's see what happens.
Maybe Duffany will resurrect the old "Hospitality Party" line he ran on two decades ago.
