Watertown gets a lot of use out of its Arena as the only venue for varied events and at age 40 it needs improvements. A study detailing the scope of updating and the cost became available in draft form this month and upon seeing the preliminary numbers I thought a Council work session was in order to see whether the appetite is there for what will be costs significantly higher than originally talked about.
From concerts to hockey to trade shows and community events like Bravo Italiano, the Arena is an asset and its functional and conveniently located.
Current locker rooms, rest rooms, seating and public areas are wanting. Improving the current facility will continue to provide a quality venue but the money has to be spent wisely. Hopefully Council's input before a final report is issued will allow the project to be right sized in a way that lawmakers and taxpayers can support.
